Vita Sackville-West:
The most noteworthy thing about gardeners is that they are always optimistic, always enterprising, and never satisfied. They always look forward to doing something better than they have ever done before
A Weedy Fact
Common Milkweed (Asclepias syriaca) -- Milkweed is included in the Ontario Noxious Weed list and is said to be toxic to cattle. Since we don't have many cattle in the City of Barrie, I grow some in my front garden.
The flowers
have the loveliest odor and the Monarchs, of course, cluster around the plants most of the summer.
Be prepared, however, to battle with one horrendous root system if you plant milkweed. You will find the plant popping up all over the place.
Being a good citizen, I pluck the volunteers and only allow 4 stalks to flower. Before the seeds are ripe, I discard the pods.
May milkweed grow in your garden, too
